Partner Spotlight – Jameson Camp

Social Health Association provides bullying and peer violence prevention and a HIV 101 program to youth attending Jameson Camp each year through Tataya Mato. Our professional Health Educators love providing programming to Tataya Mato youth and enjoy visiting Jameson Camp every summer.

More About Jameson Camp and Tataya Mato:

SHA Educator, Andrea Kamwendo, presents to Tataya Mato campers.

Tataya Mato is a 8-day summer camp that makes all the fun and discovery of a traditional camping experience available to children from across Indiana and surrounding states who are impacted by HIV/AIDS. Tataya Mato offers a unique combination of a traditional summer camp along with a comfortable support system of peers and mentors for kids in similar circumstances ages 7 to 17 years. Rather than focusing on the disease, Tataya Mato creates a relaxed environment where children and teens can spend time away from the stresses associated with HIV/AIDS.

Tataya Mato partners with organizations like Social Health Association to bring added social development programming and HIV 101 information to campers.  In Summer 2017 SHA staff served over 100 youth with 10 hours of educational programs to help keep them happy, healthy and safe.  Adolescent Health Educator, Haileigh Huggins, commented that the youth attending Step Up for Kindness!™ programs were very enthusiastic to participate in the program and “were very supportive of one another during skill-building activities, creating a welcoming and supportive environment”.

Tataya Mato if free of charge to any child referred, as are all Social Health Association programs.  Thank you for your partnership and excellent service to Indiana youth Jameson Camp.  SHA applauds you!
